Microsoft has announced that the Windows 10 November 2019 Update is now available for all users. The company confirmed the news on Twitter saying that version 1909 is available for all users and one can manually check by clicking “Check for updates” under Windows Update in Settings.

The Windows 10 November 2019 Update features all the services that were available on the previous version, the May 2019 Update. Here are a few new features on Windows 10 November 2019 Update:

• Following the update, users can create new events in the Calendar app on their devices by clicking the date and time on the Taskbar.

• The update brings Cloud Clipboard that will allow users to copy text, links, graphics and more from one device and paste it onto another. History of what was copied recently can also be checked now.

Microsoft May Have Started Rolling Out its Modern Icons for Windows 10

As of now, only the latest Windows 10 Insider Build has got the redesigned icons.

Microsoft May Have Started Rolling Out its Modern Icons for Windows 10
Image for Representation

In December last year, Microsoft announced that it will launch more than 100 redesigned product icons for Windows 10. According to reports, the wait for the revamped icons would not be for long. A Reddit user has shared the news that Microsoft may have started rolling out random tests for the new icons with Windows Insiders. Right now, only the Windows 10 taskbar has received the redesigned icons which are based on Microsoft’s Fluent Design System.

The user posted the news in a group on Reddit. However, later it was found that the user could have activated the new icons manually by using a tool called ‘StartIsBack’.

For now, these icons are only available for Windows Insiders, who are running the latest Insider Build. Also, all the icons were not pushed for the modern touch just yet. For starters, the Windows Start logo remains unchanged. Most likely, however, all the icons would be available for Windows Insiders within a week or two, as per the report. Following these phases of testing, Microsoft is likely to receive feedback about the new icons and might make some minor changes on the basis of the received feedback. After the tests, the new modern icons will be introduced for general users.

Oppo is said to be working on a premium smartphone that is expected to succeed the Oppo Find X, which was introduced towards the end of 2018. The new handset, which is being called the Find X2 by a reputable source on Weibo, will be coming with some exciting specifications as per the leaked information. According to a report, the phone is likely to come with a 6.5-inch display curved OLED panel, with a 3168×1440 pixel resolution and will also support 120Hz refresh rate.

Furthermore, it is said that the user of the phone will have an option to choose between FHD+ and QHD+ resolution and 60Hz or 120Hz refresh rate in any combination they like. It is also claimed that it is apparently possible to have QHD+ at 120Hz. Apart from that, the report states that it is a possibility that the phone might come powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 and will also support 5G connectivity.

If speculations are to be believed, then the upcoming phone might also house a camera image sensor with “omnidirectional” autofocus. Even though it is not confirmed, but there are rumours that the phone might also support 50W wireless charging, which should offer similar charging speeds as the Realme X2 Pro.

HP Omen X 2S Review: It Takes Two to Tango

HP has been pretty bold with its Omen range and the top of the line Omen X got an update where the company added a second display. Now having two displays on a laptop does sound interesting and can even have its advantages, but there’s nothing new about it. Asus has done it with the ZenBook and then there is also the more recently launched ZenBook Pro Duo. But the new Omen X 2S is one of the only dual-screened laptops aimed specifically at gamers.

Now the secondary touchscreen sits right above the keyboard and one can use it to have a constant eye on your Discord or Twitch chats or even check your hardware vitals. I’ll talk more about this in a bit, but let’s check out the other features.

Overall the machine looks like a pretty good gaming laptop. It isn’t the slimmest one out there, but still feels sleek enough to carry around in a backpack. The design did remind me of the Pavilion Gaming notebook refresh that I reviewed earlier this year with a matte black finish all around.

There is a distinct ‘X’ pattern on the lid with an RGB LED-lit Omen logo. Since the keyboard has been moved to the bottom, the trackpad is on the right side and can take a few days to get used to. There are plenty of ports too, including three USB 3.0 Type-A connections, a Thunderbolt USB-C port, Ethernet and a full-sized HDMI apart from the standard headphones and charging ports. The power adapter is heavy, which isn’t surprising, but HP seems to have made an attempt to offer a slim profile with rounded edges.

There is no compromise on power as it is loaded with high-performance hardware. It comes with the 9th-gen Intel Core i7 six-core processor option with up to 16GB of RAM and an Nvidia RTX 2080 Max-Q GPU. And if you think that this isn’t enough, you can even go for a Core i9 processor. There is plenty of storage as well, with two 512GB super-fast SSD drives paired together in a RAID 0 configuration which can be upscaled to two 1TB drives.

The gaming experience is satisfying, especially since it comes with a 144Hz G-Sync 1080p display. It is bright and smooth but somehow feels a bit dull in terms of colour reproduction and contrast, compared to other premium gaming laptops.

When it comes to playing games though, the Omen X 2S does not disappoint. Games like PUBG and Fortnite can easily run around 100 fps at the highest settings while Rise of Tomb Raider saw 60-70 fps at ultra settings. CPU temperatures went up to 75 to 85 Celsius under load, and heavy benchmark testing pushed it to over 90 degrees Celsius which is surprising since HP is said to be using a liquid metal thermal compound on the CPU, which should help in dissipating heat better than regular thermal paste.

Despite having a forward-facing keyboard though, the key travel is decent and offers nice feedback. As with most gaming notebooks, you get the option of customising the lighting effects. The touchpad sitting on the right bottom edge is soft and it feels good to use, but the left and right buttons felt mushy and a bit unnatural.

So let’s get to the highlight feature. The secondary display does exactly what it sounds like. It is basically an extension of the main display so you can drag and drop almost anything. For instance, you could be writing articles on the main display, while WhatsApp Web is active on the bottom so you can keep an eye on your messages. Or maybe have Spotify in case you need to quickly jump through your playlists while hunting down enemies on the main screen. Since it is a touchscreen, you don’t even need to pull down your cursor. You could even bring down important information like maps or certain instructions down to the bottom screen while gaming.

I particularly found HP’s Omen Command Center somewhat useful on the secondary display, especially while playing games. I could easily see the vitals of the laptop like thermals, increase or decrease fan speeds, turn on the performance mode and so on. Apart from that, the secondary display can also be used as a Numpad, although I didn’t find it very intuitive as I prefer physical keys, especially when punching in numbers.

Honestly speaking, while the secondary display is a value addition, there are a few shortcomings. First of all, HP has put a large glossy glass panel which is a bit deceiving as the actual display is only in the middle, measuring around 6-inches. And because of that, the keyboard goes all the way down, hence no place to rest your wrists. If you are planning to use the secondary screen for chats, be ready to squint a lot as text looks really tiny.

I didn’t expect a lot in the battery department, considering the power-hungry hardware topped up with that second display. I got about 2 hours of battery life with the brightness set to 50 percent and with the second display turned off. So make sure you keep the power brick handy.

So is this worth the money? The Omen X 2S is clearly a unique gaming notebook and offers the flaunt value one might be looking for. It’s a good attempt at bringing something new to the market, but the concept is still fresh and definitely needs some more work. As a gaming notebook alone, you won’t find yourself complaining over the performance. Having said that, at its premium price, there are some really good options out there including the Alienware as well as options from Acer and Asus.

This City Uses CCTV Cameras And AI to Shame People Wearing Pyjamas in Public

The Chinese city official has since apologised, the way anyone in the Chinese authority is perhaps expected to.

This City Uses CCTV Cameras And AI to Shame People Wearing Pyjamas in Public
It is expected that China will add 400 million more surveillance cameras across its cities by the end of the year, in addition to the 170 million or so that are already in place. (Images: Twitter and Reuters)

This city in China thinks wearing pyjamas outdoors is “uncivilized behavior”. And this is the city of Suzhou in China. The Government officials in Suzhou in the Anhui province released pictures of seven citizens wearing their nightwear outdoors, on a WeChat account run by the local government and categorized it as uncivilized behavior. The pictures were captured by surveillance cameras installed in the city. And it wasn’t just photos. These were accompanied by details such as the person’s name and ID card numbers. Later, a city official apologized for this uncalled-for naming and shaming in public and on online platforms. As it turns out, Suzhou city is taking part in a national “civilised city” competition, and that residents were banned from wearing pyjamas in public which apparently pull down the ranking of the city.

In a tweet by Vicky Xiuzhong Xu, a researcher at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute says, “People publicly shamed in China for going out in their PJs. Their surname, picture, and partial ID number made public. Local govt asked people to submit more “uncivilized” PJ photos – 10 bucks for each picture verified.” The officials had a justification for this—and this is the closest one should come to expecting an apology from the Chinese, if at all . “We wanted to put an end to uncivilised behaviour, but of course we should protect residents’ privacy,” said the officials said in a statement reported by the BBC.

But if you think this is going to stop, think again. The officials say that they will now blur out the person’s face in the images instead.

It is expected that China will add 400 million more surveillance cameras across its cities by the end of the year, in addition to the 170 million or so that are already in place. Many of these cameras are artificially intelligence, tapping into the massive database that the Chinese authorities have in place to identify citizens using facial recognition.

The scientists at Fudan University working with the Changchun Institute of Optics from the Chinese Academy of Sciences have already developed a 500-megapixel surveillance camera that can identify one person in a crowd of thousands.

Digital transactions in Delhi-NCR grew by 235 per cent from 2018 (January-December) to 2019 (January-December) and the region was the third most digitised state in 2019, thus, contributing 13.05 per cent in 2019 (up from 10.9 per cent in 2018), said a new report by full-stack financial services company Razorpay on Tuesday.

“The last year has been buzzing for the fintech sector in Delhi, with the adoption of new digital payment modes and bringing the digital currency to the mainstream. The last six months saw a tremendous shift in the consumption patterns of businesses and consumer preferences of digital payments in the region. With UPI growing by a whopping 442 per cent in Delhi, I am certain that this payment method will overtake cards by at least 20 per cent in the next 12 months,” Harshil Mathur, CEO and co-founder of Razorpay, said in a statement.

In 2019, Karnataka saw the highest adoption of digital payments (26.64 per cent) followed by Maharashtra (15.92 per cent) and Delhi NCR (13.01 per cent). While the usage of cards (46 per cent) and net banking (11 per cent) saw a decline in 2019, down from 56 per cent and 23 per cent for cards and net banking, respectively in 2018, UPI (38 per cent) went up from 17 per cent in 2018.

Amazon Pay was the most preferred wallet among consumers (33 per cent), followed by Ola Money (17 per cent) in 2019. The top three sectors in digital payment adoption for 2019 were food and beverage (26 per cent), financial services (12.5 per cent) and transportation (8 per cent). Among UPI, Google Pay contributed 59 per cent, PhonePe contributed 26 per cent, followed by Paytm (7 per cent) and BHIM (6 per cent) in digital transactions in 2019.

A Lucky Couple Can Live For Free On This Peaceful Island, But There Will be No Wi-Fi

Are you totally fed up of the daily stresses of life? Irritated by the constant need to balance work and personal life? Want to go away somewhere peaceful and away from the maddening crowds? There could be a job that you might want to apply for. And do it fast, because more than 23,000 interested candidates have already put in their applications. This all started on Twitter when the Great Blasket Island’s official handle (@gbisland) tweeted out a job posting earlier this month. The primary KRAs—manage a coffee shop on the island and manage three island accommodation properties. Remember, there is no Wi-Fi though. Hot water is in limited supply. And there is no electricity.

“A unique position required – looking for long term management of Island Accommodation and Coffee Shop. Couple or two friends. 1st April 2020 – October 2020 accommodation and food provided,” the original job posting said. The other advantages include no morning rush hour, no fight for parking spots and you may even spot the Basking Shark in the pristine clear waters of the Dingle Bay. In a series of tweets since, @gbisland have said, “We are beyond overwhelmed at the response for the job post. Posting the advert last year, we were concerned we would not find ANYONE. We have received over 23,000 applications. If only we could get everyone who applied to stay for one night , we’d be fully booked for..,” and “the next 30 years 😂Again, a HUGE thank you to everyone who took time to apply , we can’t explain how much your interest means to us -So sorry if we haven’t got back to you yet, our inbox is chocca block. Hopefully we will meet you all sometime over the next 30 years. B & A x.”

The successful and might we say incredibly lucky applicants, will live on this two and a half mile squared island which is 2km south west of the mainland. The replies to the job posting tweet have elicited responses from as far as Argentina, Sweden, Iran, Mexico…well, pretty much any and every country you can think of. The Telegraph reports that the Great Blasket Island is also known as An Blascaod Mor and was abandoned in 1954 due to population decline and fears that bad weather conditions would make the island inaccessible to emergency services. The island’s three cottages can accommodate up to 31 guests, who can access the island by ferry from the Dingle Peninsula.

Last year, 27-year-old Lesley Kehoe, and her 29-year old partner Gordon Bond were the winners. The Irish couple had left their jobs in the city to come and take care of the island properties. ““I don’t think either of us are ready to leave the island, it’s become a huge part of our lives and it’s definitely changed us. I think living here has shown us what works for us and what doesn’t and this pace of life definitely suits us,” they had said to the Irish Mirror at the time.

Researchers Discover T-cells That Kill Most Cancers Without Damaging Healthy Cells

Researchers at Cardiff University have discovered a new type of killer T-cell that offers hope of “one-size-fits-all” cancer therapy. These T-cells were shown, in the lab, to kill lung, skin, blood, colon, breast, bone, prostate, ovarian, kidney and cervical cancer cells, while ignoring healthy cells. T-cell therapies for cancer – where immune cells are removed, modified and returned to the patient’s blood to seek and destroy cancer cells – are the latest paradigm in cancer treatments. The most widely-used therapy, known as CAR-T, is personalised to each patient but targets only a few types of cancers and has not been successful for solid tumours.

Cardiff researchers have now discovered T-cells equipped with a new type of T-cell receptor (TCR) which recognises and kills most human cancer types while ignoring healthy cells. According to researchers, it was “highly unusual” to find a TCR with such broad cancer specificity and this raised the prospect of “universal” cancer therapy. “We hope this new TCR may provide us with a different route to target and destroy a wide range of cancers in all individuals,” said Professor Andrew Sewell, lead author on the study and an expert in T-cells from Cardiff University’s School of Medicine.

This TCR recognises a molecule present on the surface of a wide range of cancer cells as well as in many of the body’s normal cells but, remarkably, is able to distinguish between healthy cells and cancerous ones, killing only the latter. The study, published in Nature Immunology, describes a unique TCR that can recognise many types of cancer via a single HLA-like molecule called MR1. Unlike HLA, MR1 does not vary in the human population – meaning it is a hugely attractive new target for immunotherapies.

The researchers said it offers “exciting opportunities for pan-cancer, pan-population” immunotherapies not previously thought possible. “Cancer-targeting via MR1-restricted T-cells is an exciting new frontier – it raises the prospect of ‘one-size-fits-all’ cancer treatment; a single type of T-cell that could be capable of destroying many different types of cancers across the population,” elaborated Sewell.

WhatsApp Users, Dark Mode is Finally Rolling Out With Beta For Android: Here is How to Use it

If your Android phone runs Android Q, WhatsApp Dark Mode will be enabled if you have the Dark Mode enabled systemwide—this is the System Default setting.

WhatsApp Users, Dark Mode is Finally Rolling Out With Beta For Android: Here is How to Use it
(Image: WABetaInfo)

Oh dear! It has been a tiring journey. The patient wait for the WhatsApp Dark Mode finally seems to be bearing fruit. The latest WhatsApp for Android beta version is now getting the goodness of the Dark Mode. If you are already testing WhatsApp beta versions on your Android phone, you must now update to version 2.20.13 Android beta to get this new feature.

The good folks over at WABetaInfo report that while the previous beta builds could also get this feature, it would be best if you update to the newest WhatsApp for Android beta to get the Dark Mode. To get to the Dark Mode settings, you need to go to WhatsApp Settings -> Chats and here, you will see the Display settings that include Theme and Wallpaper. Select Theme to choose between Light, Dark and Battery Saver. At the same time, if your Android phone runs the latest Android Q, the WhatsApp Dark Mode feature will be enabled if you have the Dark Mode enabled systemwide on the phone—this is the System Default setting. If you choose the Battery Saver option, Android phones running Android 9 and lower versions of the operating system, will automatically switch between the light and dark themes, as per the Battery Saver settings for Android on your phone.

It appears that when the Dark Mode is enabled, the chat windows adopt a dark background with the chat bubbles having a dark green colour.

As always, this spot of good news comes with a disclaimer. We do not know when the Dark Mode will roll out for all WhatsApp users on Android. This is the first time a wider rollout is happening on the beta versions, and it could require some more testing to ensure all bugs are fixed and that the Dark Mode works seamlessly across all Android phones.

This is The End of The Road For Vodafone m-Pesa as a Payments App

Vodafone m-pesa was one of the 11 companies given the license to run a payments bank by the RBI, back in 2015.

This is The End of The Road For Vodafone m-Pesa as a Payments App
Vodafone m-pesa was one of the 11 companies given the license to run a payments bank by the RBI, back in 2015.

The Reserve Bank of India has officially cancelled the Certificate of Authorisation (CoA) of Vodafone m-pesa, after the company voluntary surrendered the Certificate of Authorisation (CoA) as a Payment System Operator (PSO). This means that Vodafone m-Pesa cannot handle any transactions or do business of issuance and operation of Prepaid payment Instruments.

“The Reserve Bank of India, in exercise of the powers conferred on it under the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007, has cancelled the Certificate of Authorisation (CoA) of the below mentioned Payment System Operator (PSO) on account of voluntary surrender of authorisation. Following the cancellation of the CoA, the company cannot transact the business of issuance and operation of Prepaid Payment Instruments. However, customers or merchants having a valid claim on the company as a PSO, can approach the company for settlement of their claims within three years from the date of cancellation i.e. by 30.09.2022.,” says the official statement by the RBI.

Also Read | Here is Why RBI Has Imposed Penalties on Vodafone m-pesa, PhonePe & Others For Regulatory Violations

The central bank’s clarification means that customers or merchants who have a valid outstanding claim with Vodafone n-Pesa as a prepaid payments instrument can now approach the company till September 30, 2022, for the settlement of their claims within three years from the date of cancellation. Vodafone Idea had decided to close m-Pesa payments system last year, after the Aditya Birla Idea Payments Bank Ltd (ABIPBL) shut down in July. Vodafone m-Pesa was expected to be merged with ABIPBL. Vodafone m-pesa was one of the 11 companies given the license to run a payments bank by the RBI, back in 2015. At present, Paytm Payments Bank and Airtel Payments Bank are two of the most popular payments banks in India

It should perhaps be noted that Vodafone had not pushed the m-Pesa platform across its own apps and websites over the past few months either, including for allowing Vodafone prepaid and postpaid subscribers to recharge their mobile connections or pay bills.
