Redmi India has launched its first true wireless earphones, the Redmi Earbuds S, in India less than a month after its parent company Xiaomi introduced the Mi True Wireless Earphones 2. Needless to say, the Redmi Earbuds S will have to compete against the Realme Buds Air Neo that launched in India a day before having a price tag of Rs 2,999.

Redmi Earbuds S Specifications and Features

Offering up to 4 hours of battery life on a single charge that can be extended up to 12 hours using the case, the Redmi Earbuds S are IPX-rated for sweat and splash resistance. Weighing just 4.1gms, the wearables feature 7.2mm drivers, connect over Bluetooth 5.0, and promise hands-free voice assistant feature as well. The product is also said to feature a low-latency gaming mode, which will no doubt, benefit gamers by offering a seamless experience without any delay. Apart from these, the earphones bring support for voice assistants as well as environmental noise reduction through the Realtek RTL8763BFR Bluetooth chip. Users will also be able to use either of the earphones individually without pairing separately.

As far as the design and colour of the earbuds are concerned, the Redmi Earbuds S pretty much appears to be the Indian version of the Redmi Airdots S that were launched in China in April. As of now, the Redmi Earbuds S will be sold only in Black colour.

Redmi Earbuds S Price and Availability in India

Priced at Rs 1,799, the Redmi Earbuds S TWS earphones looks pretty affordable compared to the other earbuds currently available. It will go on sale starting May 27 at 12PM on Amazon India, Mi.com, Mi Home Stores, and Mi Studio Outlets.

According to Microsoft, under healthcare alone, there were more than 34 million Teams meetings in the past month, including virtual visits.

  • Last Updated: May 21, 2020, 11:06 AM IST

Microsoft has introduced several new capabilities in its video meet app Teams which has become a hub for teamwork combining meetings, calls, chat, and collaboration into a single tool. Now, one can create teams quickly with customizable templates.

“Choose from common business scenarios, like event management and crisis response, as well as industry-specific templates, like a hospital ward or bank branch. Each template comes with pre-defined channels, apps, and guidance,” said By Jared Spataro, Corporate Vice President for Microsoft 365. Admins will also be able to create new custom templates and templatize existing teams in their organization, allowing them to standardize team structures, surface relevant apps, and scale best practices.

“Templates in Teams will roll out in the next few months and appear automatically,” Spataro announced during the ‘Build 2020′ developer conference on Wednesday. Now Teams users can easily create and manage chatbots and integrating with Teams is also easier than ever.

“Just select the bot you want to use and then click Add to Teams. For additional convenience, Power Virtual Agents now supports single sign-on (SSO), so users will no longer have to reauthenticate when using Teams for the first time,” informed Spataro. Developers and admins will soon be able to add their custom applications from Power Apps to Teams with a single click of the Add to Teams button.

“Meanwhile, new Power Automate business process templates for Teams will allow creators to streamline workflows using pre-built templates, or as a base to customize their own,” said Microsoft. Organizations will now be able to schedule, manage, and conduct business-to-consumer virtual appointments through the new Bookings app integration in Microsoft Teams.

According to the tech giant, under healthcare alone, there were more than 34 million Teams meetings in the past month, including virtual visits. Microsoft introduced a new Network Device Interface (NDI) support and Skype TX interoperability for Teams. It offers a more advanced set of production options for both public and private, customized, high-scale broadcasts.

Coming soon, NDI for Microsoft Teams will transform a Teams meeting into a virtual stage by converting each participant’s video into a discrete video source that can be used in the production tool of your choice. The company also announced new features in Microsoft 365.

At Ignite 2019, Microsoft announced the public preview of Microsoft Fluid Framework – a new set of experiences designed to make collaboration seamless by breaking down barriers between apps. “The first Fluid Framework integrations in Microsoft 365, coming to Outlook and Office.com, will enable you to collaborate on dynamic content and create connected components that can be shared simultaneously and seamlessly across apps,” said Spataro.

Tables, charts, and task lists can be easily inserted in Outlook for the web, so your sales numbers, project tasks, and research reports are always up to date. Within Office.com, Fluid workspaces can be created and managed, including within your document activity feed, Recommended list, and @mentions—or search for them across Office.com.

Fluid Framework is now open source and can be used to instantly make apps collaborative. Outlook on the web can now help compose email messages with text predictions. “Using intelligent technology to infer meaning and intention, Outlook can help you compose faster, avoid typos, and craft polished email messages,” said Microsoft. The company also launched a new Lists app which is smart information tracking app across Microsoft 365. With Lists, users can easily track data and information to stay updated on the latest status.

Microsoft Edge is Getting New Features Soon, And That’s Another Reason to Leave Google Chrome

Image: Microsoft

Microsoft has confirmed that the new Edge will roll out to all Windows 10 users in the coming weeks.

  • News18.com
  • Last Updated: May 20, 2020, 10:55 AM IST

Microsoft has announced a bunch of new updates that are incoming for the Edge web browser. Extension sync across devices, sidebar search and better handling of Progressive Web Apps (PWA) are on the horizon. At the BUILD 2020 conference, Microsoft unveiled the new line-up of features for Edge which will be rolled out to developers in the coming weeks.

For starters, there is extension sync which will allow you sync all the add-ons and extensions across computing devices running the Microsoft Edge web browser with your account signed in. This was one of the areas where Edge was still catching up to Google Chrome in the web browser stakes, but that is also set to change. The Extension sync feature will be available in the Sync menu in the Edge settings, and you will have the option to enable it or leave it disabled. We do not still know whether this will work for all extensions—but the expectation is that it will.

Microsoft is also making Progressive Web Apps work a bit better on Edge now. The new update will allow Edge to open PWAs in a standalone menu and Windows 10 users will be able to add these apps to the Start Menu and the Taskbar. “We’re working on updates to make this integration even smoother—you’ll be able to manage them from settings, use them to share (and receive shared content), and more,” says Microsoft.

Have you also read?

If You Haven’t Already, Microsoft Just Gave You Another Reason to Switch to Edge From Google Chrome

Microsoft is also making the Sidebar more powerful for quick web searches. The new implementation will allow users to select any word or text on the web page, choose the ‘search in sidebar’ option from the right-click menu and see the search results in the sidebar without closing the already open web page or having to switch tabs or open another window.

The Edge web browser is also getting the automatic profile switching feature. As the name suggests, Automatic Profile Switching will detect if you are trying to visit a site you usually visit from your work profile, but instead you are using your personal profile this time—and Microsoft Edge will prompt you about the detection. If you respond in the affirmative, Edge make the switch automatically for that particular website. All the profiles and their data will also be synced across devices, depending on which accounts you sign in with on your phone, laptop and tablet, for example.

According to the latest numbers by research firm Netmarketshare, Microsoft Edge now has 6.44% share among desktops and PCs and growing, while Firefox isn’t far ahead with 8.21% share. It is still some way to reach Google Chrome though, which has cornered 68.06% share. But that could change because Microsoft has confirmed that the new Edge will roll out to all Windows 10 users in the coming weeks. This plan was confirmed in January itself, and we will now see the new Edge being made available via Windows Update—this will be for all Windows 10 machines except enterprise and education ones.

MIUI 12 Launch by Xiaomi at 5:30PM Today: Key Features and How to Watch Live

MIUI 12 Launch by Xiaomi at 5:30PM Today: Key Features and How to Watch Live

Xiaomi has already tested MIUI 12 among testers in India, and it remains to be seen if the custom Android interface features any India specific touches.

  • News18.com
  • Last Updated: May 19, 2020, 10:55 AM IST

Xiaomi MIUI 12 is set to be launched officially today, after making its first official appearance last month. Having been under pilot testing for some time, MIUI 12 is now ready for prime time action among the legions of Xiaomi users in India. The latest version of Xiaomi’s custom Android interface comes with a number of improvements, as well as new features to aid difficulties in usage. The live action from Xiaomi’s official unveiling of the global MIUI 12 ROM can be caught online later today, and here’s everything you need to know about it.

Live stream

The Xiaomi MIUI 12 global ROM launch will be held via an online live stream later today, at 8PM Beijing Time. Indian users can catch the launch live by accessing the YouTube live stream on Xiaomi’s official channel. In India, the live stream will begin at 5:30PM IST. The live stream of the MIUI 12 unveil will also take place on Xiaomi’s official social media handles, and interested parties can catch it live on the company’s Facebook and Twitter accounts as well.

Expected new features

Among the highlights of MIUI 12 are three main features — Dark Mode 2.0, AI calling and live transcript, and a security feature called ‘barbed wire’. With Dark Mode 2.0, Xiaomi is introducing an always-on display for its phones for possibly the first time, bringing it up to speed with various implementations of always-on displays by the likes of OnePlus, Samsung and others. It will be interesting to see how Xiaomi’s take on the always-on display differs from its competitors.

The second major new feature are enhanced privacy features, where reports suggest that Xiaomi is taking a randomised virtual ID approach towards installed apps. This will seemingly protect users from directly sharing their email addresses. Simultaneously, MIUI 12 will reportedly maintain logs of app data requests and data accesses on phones, in a bid to reinstate user faith in the company’s data privacy practices. This will be particularly important to observe, since Xiaomi has recently faced considerable backlash over roguish data collection practices through its browser apps.

The other security feature is called ‘barbed wire’, and is Xiaomi’s implementation of the limited app permission access feature on Android. This will allow users to let an app access a particular permission for only a limited period of time, therefore limiting which app can misuse user data.

Other features aboard MIUI 12 will include a new AI calling feature, which will live transcribe incoming calls and offer preset responses as answers. The feature may prove to be particularly important for users with hearing disabilities. The full list of features, including any India-specific new features (if any), will be revealed in a few hours. To view it live, tune in to the live stream above.

Realme Buds Air Neo (Pic Source: 91mobiles)

Realme Buds Air Neo (Pic Source: 91mobiles)

Realme Buds Air Neo TWS hearables is likely to be launched on May 25 and could be a more affordable version of the Realme Buds Air.

  • News18.com
  • Last Updated: May 16, 2020, 3:46 PM IST

After launching its first truly wireless earphones Realme Buds Air last year, Realme is said to be working on another pair which is rumoured to be an affordable version of the former models. In fact, a new leak surfaced in 91mobiles confirmed that the TWS will be named ‘Realme Buds Air Neo’ by the company.

Realme Buds Air Neo Rumoured Specifications and Design

The upcoming Realme Buds Air Neo earphones will be equipped with 13mm drives and Bluetooth v5.0, per the report. The true wireless earbuds may also be powered by Realme’s R1 chip and provide a total of 17 hours of battery life on a single charge. The report also says that the Neo variant earbuds will feature Realme’s Game Mode that can reduce latency by 51 percent to boost the audio experience. This feature was also available with Realme Buds Air, that the company launched in December 2019.

As far as the design of the Realme Buds Air Neo is concerned, it will bear a similar look to the original Buds Air. Interestingly, the new pair will still look like the Apple AirPods with long steam and a pill-shaped charging case. The retail box of the Realme Buds Air Neo leaked by 91mobiles revealed that the earbuds will come in white and black colours. The report further added that the Buds Air Neo hearables will come a micro-USB port at the bottom.

This has been probably done to keep the costs low, unlike its predecessor, albeit there is no official word on the price details. However, in all likelihood, Reamle Buds Air Neo will be affordable than the Realme Buds Air. While the leaked report also doesn’t specify the launch date, one can expect, the new Realme Buds Air Neo to arrive in Realme’s next event on May 25, when it will also launch eight new products.

Moto Razr Android 10 Update Brings New Features For Quick View Display

Moto Razr Android 10 Update Brings New Features For Quick View Display

The new Moto Razr is getting the Android 10 update which brings some new features to the outer display as well as some new camera features.

  • Last Updated: May 12, 2020, 6:34 PM IST

The Moto Razr has been one of the most hyped and exciting smartphones from the company in recent times. Now while the pricing hasn’t been very attractive and there have been questions regarding the build of the handset, it is still an iconic gadget.

Surprisingly, the handset was launched with Android 9 Pie, but the company has finally started rolling Android 10 for the foldable device. Of course, the update is not going to solve the hardware quirks, but it should bring some respite to owners. Apart from bringing all the new features including dark mode, enhanced permissions, gesture navigation options and so on, it also expands some functionality of the device, specifically the outer display.

With the new update, the outer ‘Quick View’ display now supports more apps. The outer display now lets you use Google Maps with navigation, control music on streaming apps like Spotify and YouTube Music, access favorite contacts to make calls and even reply to messages using the new Quick View keyboard or Smart Replies.

The camera also gets some new well-needed features including group selfies and portrait modes when the phone is shut. New gestures like swiping right or twisting your wrist can now quickly fire up the camera app.

Motorola says that the update should start rolling out to all-users by mid-May, so expect the update to arrive any time soon.

File photo of Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro.

The official launch of the Mi 10 5G and Mi Box will be done through a live stream event on Friday at 12 pm IST.

  • News18.com
  • Last Updated: May 7, 2020, 4:55 PM IST

Xiaomi has announced the sale of its flagship Mi 10 5G smartphone, as well as the Mi Box 4K streaming box, in India. Both the devices will be available through Amazon.in, and will be unveiled in a live streamed online event tomorrow, May 8, at 12 noon (IST). Alongside Amazon India, the two products will also be available on the company’s official website too. As part of its preorder offers, the Mi 10 5G smartphone will come with a Mi Wireless Power Bank for free (original price Rs 2,499), albeit only for a limited period of time.

Mi 10 5G

The Mi 10 5G will sport a 3D curved TrueColor E3 AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection and stereo speakers. It will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC, and claims to have the “world’s fastest wireless charging” as well. As far as the camera is concerned, the phone will come with a 108-megapixel primary camera in a quad rear camera setup, coupled with optical image stabilisation (OIS) and 8K video recording. As for the price, the Mi 10 5G was launched in China at an introductory price of CNY 3,999 (~Rs 43,000). Given Xiaomi’s habit of competitive pricing, it remains to be seen if the company manages to price the Mi 10 at a similar point in India as well, to remain competitive with the OnePlus 8 series as well.

Mi Box 4K

The Mi Box 4K streaming box is being targeted by Xiaomi for users that still have older generation TVs at home. The upcoming Mi Box 4K is slated to be a revised edition of one of the Mi Box models already in sale in China, with speculations largely suggesting it to be a revised version of Mi Box S. Xiaomi India’s website also reveals that users will get support for 4K playback through the upcoming Mi Box, as well as Dolby Audio. Built-in Chromecast support and a Voice Remote will be the two other features of the Mi Box, which remains consistent with the TV experience that Xiaomi’s new generation televisions in India already offer. Taking international prices into consideration, the Mi Box 4K may cost about Rs 5,000 in India.

The official icon of the Android 11 Developer Preview. (Illustration altered by News18.com)

From call screening to dedicated foldable phone refinements and better permission management, here are some more features that’ll be in Android 11.

  • News18.com
  • Last Updated: March 20, 2020, 3:36 PM IST

Yesterday, Google released Android 11 Developer Preview 2, bringing in more features that should be part of Android 11’s stable build. Alongside that, it has also revealed the timeline by when it expects Android 11 to be ready for rolling out as a bug free, stable build. The new features are mostly targeted at helping developers prepare their apps for the future Android version, which is natural since this is not a beta version for users to preview and test. As a result of this, Google has recommended that only developers access this preview, and has made it a manually downloadable file that developers will have to willingly flash on their Pixel 2, 3, 3a and Pixel 4 devices (to download, click here).

New features

In terms of features, Google’s second Android 11 preview adds the option for developers to test apps that automatically adapt to the angle of fold on a display, thereby leading to the building of responsive and adaptive mobile applications for foldable phones. It also gets a new 5G API, using which apps that can connect to a compatible phone’s 5G network will show a 5G logo on the notifications bar. This isn’t particularly useful, and only serves as a gimmick for brands to squabble over.

Other features include tighter privacy control, where background apps will no longer be able to access your camera and microphone without being allowed by a user voluntarily. Google had already added this control for location settings, and with camera and microphone access also getting the same, it is good to note that Google is focusing on privacy in these trying times. The developer preview also adds refresh rate control for apps, allowing them to work at their preferred display refresh rates in phones with high refresh rate displays.

Another nifty new feature is the automatic background service resumption for chat and email applications post a restart. This will be particularly useful when updating devices overnight. The new developer preview will also allow developers to migrate their apps from legacy storage to scoped storage systems, hence preparing them for the eventual Android 11 rollout.

Launch timeline

As described by Google’s VP of engineering Dave Burke, the first and second developer previews of Android 11 were scheduled for February and March, and have now met their timelines. Post this, the user-oriented beta versions of Android 11 will be worked upon in April and May. Finally, between June and September is when Google expects to release the stable version of Android 11, which suits the typical timeline of when Android versions are officially unveiled.
