  • News18.com
  • Last Updated: May 25, 2020, 12:14 PM IST

Realme is all set to announce three new products in India today. Surprisingly none of them are going to be a smartphone as the company is planning to expand its reach to other segments. The company will be announcing its first smart TV dubbed the Realme TV as well as a new smartwatch. The company already sells the Realme Buds Air true wireless earphones and it will be expanding that by launching a possibly more affordable option.

Realme’s launch event is scheduled at 12:30PM today and like most recent launch events, this one will also be an online-only event due the COVID-19 pandemic. You can catch the livestream down below or head to Realme India’s via social media channels including YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook.

REALME TV

As mentioned above, Realme will be entering the smart TV market with its new Realme TV. By the looks of it, the company wants to compete in the space against the likes of Xiaomi, Samsung and various other brands by offering a competitive product. The company has teased some of the specifications of the upcoming smart TV which include a MediaTek SoC that will power the device, as well as a four-speaker system with 24W audio output. When it comes to the design, the Realme TV is also expected to come with minimal bezels.

It will be running on the popular Android TV platform and recently Realme India head Madhav Sheth revealed that the remote control will include dedicated buttons for Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, and Google Assistant.

REALME WATCH

Realme is also going to expand its wearables offering by launching the new Realme Watch. Again, there is limited information about the product however it has been teased to feature a 1.4-inch colour square touchscreen. Realme will be offering it in different strap options along with several watchfaces and it will come with a heart-rate and SpO2 sensors. It is also expected to offer various modes to track activity including basketball, aerobics, badminton, football, treadmill, running, yoga, and biking modes. Heart-rate sensor and SpO2 sensor will be present as well.

REALME BUDS AIR NEO

After launching its first true wireless earphones, the Buds Air, Realme is expected to now bring a new version which is apparently going to be more affordable. The Buds Air Neo will offer a similar design as the original Buds Air, but will come in different colour options and a smaller battery offering 3 hours of music playback. The earphones will feature 13mm drivers with support for dual-channel transmission and a super low latency mode for gaming.

MIUI 12 Launch by Xiaomi at 5:30PM Today: Key Features and How to Watch Live

MIUI 12 Launch by Xiaomi at 5:30PM Today: Key Features and How to Watch Live

Xiaomi has already tested MIUI 12 among testers in India, and it remains to be seen if the custom Android interface features any India specific touches.

  • News18.com
  • Last Updated: May 19, 2020, 10:55 AM IST

Xiaomi MIUI 12 is set to be launched officially today, after making its first official appearance last month. Having been under pilot testing for some time, MIUI 12 is now ready for prime time action among the legions of Xiaomi users in India. The latest version of Xiaomi’s custom Android interface comes with a number of improvements, as well as new features to aid difficulties in usage. The live action from Xiaomi’s official unveiling of the global MIUI 12 ROM can be caught online later today, and here’s everything you need to know about it.

Live stream

The Xiaomi MIUI 12 global ROM launch will be held via an online live stream later today, at 8PM Beijing Time. Indian users can catch the launch live by accessing the YouTube live stream on Xiaomi’s official channel. In India, the live stream will begin at 5:30PM IST. The live stream of the MIUI 12 unveil will also take place on Xiaomi’s official social media handles, and interested parties can catch it live on the company’s Facebook and Twitter accounts as well.

Expected new features

Among the highlights of MIUI 12 are three main features — Dark Mode 2.0, AI calling and live transcript, and a security feature called ‘barbed wire’. With Dark Mode 2.0, Xiaomi is introducing an always-on display for its phones for possibly the first time, bringing it up to speed with various implementations of always-on displays by the likes of OnePlus, Samsung and others. It will be interesting to see how Xiaomi’s take on the always-on display differs from its competitors.

The second major new feature are enhanced privacy features, where reports suggest that Xiaomi is taking a randomised virtual ID approach towards installed apps. This will seemingly protect users from directly sharing their email addresses. Simultaneously, MIUI 12 will reportedly maintain logs of app data requests and data accesses on phones, in a bid to reinstate user faith in the company’s data privacy practices. This will be particularly important to observe, since Xiaomi has recently faced considerable backlash over roguish data collection practices through its browser apps.

The other security feature is called ‘barbed wire’, and is Xiaomi’s implementation of the limited app permission access feature on Android. This will allow users to let an app access a particular permission for only a limited period of time, therefore limiting which app can misuse user data.

Other features aboard MIUI 12 will include a new AI calling feature, which will live transcribe incoming calls and offer preset responses as answers. The feature may prove to be particularly important for users with hearing disabilities. The full list of features, including any India-specific new features (if any), will be revealed in a few hours. To view it live, tune in to the live stream above.

Motorola Edge Plus India Launch at 12PM Today: Will it Rival the OnePlus 8 Pro?

The new Motorola Edge+, the brand's flagship smartphone.

The new Motorola Edge+, the brand’s flagship smartphone.

Motorola Edge Plus price in India and launch offers are set to be unveiled today, hence bringing new competition to the OnePlus 8 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S20.

  • News18.com
  • Last Updated: May 19, 2020, 8:17 AM IST
  • Edited by: Shouvik Das

Motorola Edge Plus is set for its India launch at 12PM today. The flagship Motorola smartphone comes after its earlier launch, the foldable Motorola Razr (2019), somewhat flopped due to underwhelming reviews and major questions about its durability and longevity. With a more ‘regular’ flagship device, the Motorola Edge Plus will look to take on competition in the premium smartphone market in India. The smartphone is launching just in time as the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions are being gradually lifted, hence allowing individuals to buy smartphones once again. Having been unveiled already in USA, here’s taking a look at what the Motorola Edge Plus may mean for the Indian smartphone industry.

Specifications

The Motorola Edge Plus will be the latest smartphone in India to run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, the flagship processor of the year. As a result, 5G connectivity will be an integrated feature as well, although India has no signs of 5G at least in the foreseeable future. The processor is paired with 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage. All of this performance prowess can be seen in the dual-edge type display, which not only looks quite impressive, but will come with some sort of edge functionality as well.

The display itself is 6.7 inches in size, with full HD+ resolution, HDR10+ content rating and a 90Hz fast refresh rate. To the rear, it features a quad camera setup, headlined by a 108-megapixel sensor with optical stabilisation. The other units include 8-megapixel telephoto module with 3x optical zoom range and OIS, a 16-megapixel ultra-wide module, and a depth-sensing 3D time of flight (ToF) module. The camera unit will be able to record up to 6K videos at 30fps, and full HD slow motion videos at up to 120fps.

Up front, the display punch hole houses a 25-megapixel snapper that can take HDR shots and record full HD videos at up to 120fps. All of this is powered by a 5,000mAh battery, with 18W fast charging, 15W wireless fast charging, and 5W reverse wireless charging as well with compatible devices. Connectivity and sensor chops of the Motorola Edge Plus include Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1 (with support for the new Bluetooth LE standard), USB-C 3.1, an under-display optical fingerprint sensor and a barometer.

Launch details

While the Motorola Edge Plus India launch is confirmed for 12PM today, Motorola has not announced any live stream to mark the device’s launch in India. Unless last moment change of plans are put forth, it is likely that the Motorola Edge Plus will be directly made available on Flipkart, the exclusive launch partner. It remains to be seen if any launch offers are also made available once the sale goes live.

Comparison with rivals

In USA, the Motorola Edge Plus was priced at $999 (~Rs 75,700) upon launch, which is a rather steep point of pricing. Given its specifications, the prime rivals for the Motorola Edge Plus in India would be the Samsung Galaxy S20 and S20 Plus, and the recently launched OnePlus 8 Pro. While Samsung’s flagship duo are priced at Rs 70,499 and Rs 73,999 in India respectively, OnePlus pulled off a major pricing coup with the flagship OnePlus 8 Pro. Despite its $999 price tag in USA, the company priced it at Rs 54,999 in India, thereby giving it some degree of ‘value’ considering its flagship bearings.

With this in mind, pricing will likely play the major deciding factor behind how impactful the Motorola Edge Plus may turn out to be in the industry. While the premium segment is typically a slow mover, it has picked up pace in India of late, and the Motorola Edge Plus will be looking to eat into a share of this market, should it get its bearings right.

Realme Narzo 10, Narzo 10A to Launch Today: Here’s How to Watch Live Stream

After multiple delays, Realme is finally going to launch its new budget centric smartphone series, Narzo. Targeted at the younger audience, the series was expected to launch in March but was delayed due to the ongoing coronavirus lockdown. The Realme Narzo 10 is expected to be a rebranded version of the Realme 6i that launched in Myanmar earlier this year, while the Realme Narzo 10A is expected to be a rebranded version of the Realme C3.

The two handsets will be launched at an online event that is scheduled for 12.30 PM IST. The event will be streamed on the company’s official YouTube and other social media channels. You can also check out the stream that we have embedded below:

REALME NARZO 10

It is being speculated that the Realme Narzo 10 will be a rebranded version of the Realme 6i that launched in Myanmar earlier this year. So we can expect a MediaTek Helio G80 processor featuring two Cortex-A75 cores clocked at 2GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.8GHz. It will also come with a 6.5-inch HD+ (720×1,600 pixels) display with an aspect ratio of 20:9, and a quad-camera setup at the back with a 48-megapixel primary sensor.

As for the front camera, it will be a 16-megapixel sensor placed inside a waterdrop notch. The handset is also going to feature a large 5,000mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging. The Narzo 10 is also said to include up to 128GB of onboard storage, a microSD card slot (up to 256GB), USB Type-C port, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS/A-GPS, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It should arrive with Android 10 out of the box with Realme UI on top.

REALME NARZO 10A

The Realme Narzo 10A is expected to include a MediaTek Helio G70 processor and a 6.5-inch HD+ display. This one will have a triple camera with a 12-megapixel primary sensor, and a 5-megapixel selfie camera. Other features include a 5,000mAh battery and a fingerprint scanner on the back. This one will also come with Android 10 out-of-the-box with Realme UI on top.

While there is no confirmation from Realme, it is speculated that the Narzo 10 will be priced under Rs 15,000. As mentioned before, the Nazro 10 could be a rebranded version of Realme 6i that retails at MMK 249,900 (Rs 13,000 approx) for the base 3GB + 64GB storage variant. There is also a 4GB + 128GB storage variant which is priced at MMK 299,900 (Rs 16,000 approx) in Myanmar.

The Realme Narzo 10A is being called as a rebranded version of the Realme C3 which has already launched in Thailand. If that holds true, it could launch at a similar price which is THB 3,999 (Rs 9,000 approx) for the 3GB + 32GB variant.
