Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has patented a foldable smartphone with a quad-camera system that rotates forward for selfies and back for regular photos. The smartphone maker has filed the design patent for an inward bending phone in China and has also put 48 images to showcase the handset, reports GizmoChina.

The patent images show a flexible screen with no notches or cutouts. The phone folds inwards, protecting the display. There are no signs of a secondary display and the chin rotating camera module is at the top, making the phone look like an upside-down Moto Razr. Earlier, the company also patented a new dual-display smartphone with the quad-rear camera setup.

According to the patent, the primary display is like any other phone with ultra-slim bezels and earpiece up top. The secondary display on the new Xiaomi-patented phone is as small in size as the quad-camera housing on the back.

  • Last Updated: May 22, 2020, 2:22 PM IST

Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi is scheduled to host yet another event in China on May 26. The company is expected to launch a new smartphone called the Redmi 10X which is going to be one of the first phones to offer a dual 5G SIM option. Apart from that, the company has also confirmed some of the key features of the upcoming handset.

Redmi General Manager Lu Weibing had earlier confirmed that the Redmi 10X will come with the new MediaTek Dimensity 820 SoC that supports dual 5G connectivity. The info was later confirmed on the company’s Weibo account. Further the company also confirmed that the handset is going to feature an AMOLED display and the cameras will offer upto 30x zoom along with OIS (optical image stabilisation).

The upcoming Redmi handset is also confirmed to feature a quad-camera setup which could be highlighted by a 48-megapixel main camera. Redmi TV X Series Launch Set For May 26: Everything You Need to Know

Redmi TV X series

Redmi TV X series

The Redmi TV X series will be available in three models – Redmi TV X50, Redmi TV X55, and Redmi TV X65.

  • News18.com
  • Last Updated: May 20, 2020, 3:51 PM IST

Chinese tech giant Xiaomi is all set to expand its smart TV operations in the Redmi series lineup by launching the new Redmi TV X series in China on May 26. The smart TVs which will be launched alongside the Redmi 10X smartphone will be available in three models – Redmi TV X50, Redmi TV X55, and Redmi TV X65.

Xiaomi President and Redmi General Manager Lu Weibing took to Weibo to tease the new Redmi TV X series. Interestingly, the number in the name denotes the screen size of the models in inches. However, the company has not shared any other details on the Redmi TV X Series, including the pricing.

It is notable that the Redmi TV X Series will not be the first smart TV launched by Redmi. The company currently sells two Redmi TV models in China – the 98-inch and 70-inch panels respectively. Moreover, if reports from tipster Ishan Agarwal are to be believed, then the Redmi TV X series models could be under Xiaomi’s OLED TV segments. From the poster, it can also be inferred, that the Redmi TV X Series models will offer thin bezels.

As far as India is concerned, which is one of the biggest markets for Xiaomi, it will be interesting to see whether the company plans to launch the Redmi TV X Series in the country. Notably, Xiaomi has already launched its flagship Mi 10 5G phone in India along with other accessories like the Mi Box 4K, Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 and a robot vacuum cleaner. Therefore, questions remain on whether Xiaomi will once again reserve its best TV models for the Chinese market, as always, or will it launch them in India by the end of this year or early 2021.

MIUI 12 Launch by Xiaomi at 5:30PM Today: Key Features and How to Watch Live

MIUI 12 Launch by Xiaomi at 5:30PM Today: Key Features and How to Watch Live

Xiaomi has already tested MIUI 12 among testers in India, and it remains to be seen if the custom Android interface features any India specific touches.

  • News18.com
  • Last Updated: May 19, 2020, 10:55 AM IST

Xiaomi MIUI 12 is set to be launched officially today, after making its first official appearance last month. Having been under pilot testing for some time, MIUI 12 is now ready for prime time action among the legions of Xiaomi users in India. The latest version of Xiaomi’s custom Android interface comes with a number of improvements, as well as new features to aid difficulties in usage. The live action from Xiaomi’s official unveiling of the global MIUI 12 ROM can be caught online later today, and here’s everything you need to know about it.

Live stream

The Xiaomi MIUI 12 global ROM launch will be held via an online live stream later today, at 8PM Beijing Time. Indian users can catch the launch live by accessing the YouTube live stream on Xiaomi’s official channel. In India, the live stream will begin at 5:30PM IST. The live stream of the MIUI 12 unveil will also take place on Xiaomi’s official social media handles, and interested parties can catch it live on the company’s Facebook and Twitter accounts as well.

Expected new features

Among the highlights of MIUI 12 are three main features — Dark Mode 2.0, AI calling and live transcript, and a security feature called ‘barbed wire’. With Dark Mode 2.0, Xiaomi is introducing an always-on display for its phones for possibly the first time, bringing it up to speed with various implementations of always-on displays by the likes of OnePlus, Samsung and others. It will be interesting to see how Xiaomi’s take on the always-on display differs from its competitors.

The second major new feature are enhanced privacy features, where reports suggest that Xiaomi is taking a randomised virtual ID approach towards installed apps. This will seemingly protect users from directly sharing their email addresses. Simultaneously, MIUI 12 will reportedly maintain logs of app data requests and data accesses on phones, in a bid to reinstate user faith in the company’s data privacy practices. This will be particularly important to observe, since Xiaomi has recently faced considerable backlash over roguish data collection practices through its browser apps.

The other security feature is called ‘barbed wire’, and is Xiaomi’s implementation of the limited app permission access feature on Android. This will allow users to let an app access a particular permission for only a limited period of time, therefore limiting which app can misuse user data.

Other features aboard MIUI 12 will include a new AI calling feature, which will live transcribe incoming calls and offer preset responses as answers. The feature may prove to be particularly important for users with hearing disabilities. The full list of features, including any India-specific new features (if any), will be revealed in a few hours. To view it live, tune in to the live stream above.

Xiaomi Mi TV 4 55 Will Not Get Android TV Update: But You Get a New Mi Box 4K Deal Sweetener

Xiaomi has confirmed that the Mi TV 4 55, which was launched in 2018, will not get the Android TV update. In fact, this was the TV that marked Xiaomi’s now very successful entry into the smart TV space in India. However, hardware limitations have meant that the Android TV update, which was expected for this TV, will now not happen. Those who may already own this TV will surely be disappointed. Xiaomi is however offering an additional Rs 1,000 off if they purchase the new Mi Box 4K streaming device, that can instead bring the Android TV experience to their smart TV.

Xiaomi says that you need to share your Mi TV 4 55’s serial number and the details of the platform it was purchased from—Flipkart, Amazon, Mi Store or other retailers, along with your contact details. Once the purchase details are verified with the serial number, you will receive a coupon worth Rs 1,000 which you can add to your Mi Account and use for the purchase of the Mi Box 4K. The Mi Box 4K, launched just a few days ago, is priced at Rs 3,499. With this discount, you will be able to get it for Rs 2,499.

The Mi TV 4 55 landed with the PatchWall smart TV platform that focuses on content curation from a variety of streaming services Hotstar, Jio Cinema, Zee5, Voot, Eros Now, Hungama Play, Jio Cinema, Alt Balaji and more.

The Mi Box 4K connects to your TV via an HDMI port and runs the pure Android TV 9 operating system. You get all the popular video streaming apps, including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar, YouTube, Jio Cinema, Zee5, Voot, Eros Now, Hungama Play, Jio Cinema, Alt Balaji, Tubi, Epic On, Mubi, Google Play Movies and more. It supports 4K video streaming—at this time, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video have a generous amount of 4K content. The Mi TV 4K box supports HDR10, you get the full Google Assistant and you can use the Chromecast built-in as well.

“Mi fans, we always endeavor to provide you the best Smart TV experience, but we regret to inform you that android TV updates cannot be made available to Mi TV 4 55,” says Xiaomi in an official statement. “We have pushed the android TV updates to 3M+ Mi TVs. However, the Mi TV 4 55″ does not support the requirements for android TV codecs because of its unique design,” they say.

The Mi Box 4K is now available on the Mi Store. It is understandably quite disappointing that the Mi TV 4 55 will not get the Android TV update that many expected. However, it may just not be possible to splurge on another TV at this time—and the Mi Box 4K seems like a pretty good alternative for the time being.
